Course Description:
Orofacial pain is a common and often multifactorial condition that can significantly affect quality of life. This lecture explores its key origins, beginning with muscle-related sources such as myalgia and myofascial pain, including their clinical presentation, diagnosis, and evidence-based management strategies. It then differentiates these from non-muscular causes (articular, neuropathic, odontogenic, and systemic) and examines the complementary roles of CBCT and MRI in clarifying diagnosis, guiding treatment decisions, and correlating imaging findings with the clinical picture.
Course Objectives
- Identify the clinical features, pathophysiology, and evidence-based management strategies for
muscle-related orofacial pain. - Differentiate muscular from non-muscular sources of orofacial pain through systematic history and examination.
- Select appropriate imaging (CBCT vs. MRI) and interpret key findings that influence diagnosis and treatment planning in orofacial pain patients.
