Course Description:
This comprehensive 8-hour course is designed to help general dentists confidently incorporate CBCT imaging into everyday clinical practice. Participants will develop a systematic approach to CBCT interpretation while learning to identify both common and clinically significant findings throughout the maxillofacial complex.
Topics include normal maxillofacial anatomy, interpretation principles, incidental findings, endodontic diagnosis, implant site assessment, third molar evaluation, pathology of the jaws, paranasal sinus findings, temporomandibular joint disorders, airway evaluation, and medico-legal considerations. Attendees will also learn how CBCT can improve treatment planning, enhance interdisciplinary communication, and support more predictable clinical outcomes.
Through real-world cases and practical examples, participants will gain the knowledge needed to recognize findings that impact patient care, understand when referral is indicated, and maximize the diagnostic value of every scan obtained in their practice.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Develop a systematic approach to CBCT interpretation.
- Recognize normal radiographic anatomy and common anatomic variations.
- Identify incidental findings that may require further evaluation or referral.
- Utilize CBCT for endodontic diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Assess implant sites and recognize factors affecting implant success.
- Evaluate impacted teeth and third molars using three-dimensional imaging.
- Recognize common odontogenic and non-odontogenic pathoses.
- Interpret TMJ osseous findings and understand CBCT limitations for soft tissue
- evaluation.
- Understand airway assessment principles and their role in comprehensive patient
- care.
- Incorporate CBCT findings into everyday treatment planning and interdisciplinary
- communication.
- Appreciate the medico-legal responsibilities associated with CBCT acquisition and
- interpretation.
This course is ideal for general dentists seeking to maximize the diagnostic value of CBCT technology, improve patient outcomes, and increase confidence in interpreting three-dimensional imaging.
