Course Overview:

Historically, complete denture therapy has provided clinically acceptable results, however, advances in digital technology have provided new treatment fabrication methods and restorative choices. This presentation will cover the key essential ingredients to the success of digitally fabricated dentures and several fabrication methods to achieve it. The dentist and dental laboratory technician will be able to use this information to transition from conventional complete removable prosthodontic workflows to digital protocols.

Objectives:

• Describe fundamentals of digitally fabricated dentures compared to analog dentures.
• Describe the Reference Denture and Traditional Wax Rim techniques of digital denture fabrication.
• Describe the Wagner Try-in technique for 3-appointment digital denture fabrication
• Discuss a master impression tray fabrication technique paired with the final master impressions in one appointment.
• Discuss capturing required digital records with an intraoral scanner and transmitting them to the laboratory for prosthesis fabrication.
• Be prepared to start your next denture patient using the digital denture workflow.

About the speaker: 

Dr. Christopher Minke, a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists and is currently in his 40th year of teaching prosthodontic principles.

He received his dental degree from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry and his prosthodontic training at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center and the University of Texas Health Sciences Center where he earned a Certificate in Prosthodontics and a Master of Science in Prosthodontics upon graduation in 1990.

After retiring from the USAF, he continued as an educator teaching undergraduate dentistry at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at Houston (2002-2004) and in 2004 he took a position with the Veterans Health Administration as the Program Director of the Residency in Prosthodontics at Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston. In the summer of 2014 Dr. Minke and his wife moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast where he took a position in general dentistry with the Veterans Gulf Coast Health Care System in Biloxi, MS. Since retiring from Federal Service, Chris has joined AvaDent Digital Dental Solutions part time to spread the word about digital dentures.
