Course Description:
This engaging course explores the science and humanity of healthy aging, adapted from Dr. Shapira’s extensive lectures and experience. Topics include sexuality, communication, love, intimacy, caregiving, fetal development, and brain maturation. Dr. Shapira examines the challenges faced by aging patients—highlighting statistics on adults 65 and older, the impact of falls and related dental injuries, and the global prevalence of edentulism. Additional discussions cover chronic and acute disease, the profound effects of loneliness on health, nutrition, and end-of-life considerations. The program concludes with practical insights and timeless reflections on aging well and living with purpose.

About the Speaker:
Dr. Eric Shapira is an Emeritus member of the ADA and AGD with more than a decade of teaching experience at the University of the Pacific and UCSF Dental Schools. He developed courses in geriatric and special needs dentistry and has published over 100 professional articles. His award-winning book *A New Wrinkle* explores lessons from healthy aging, and his recent textbook *Geriatric Dentistry: Gateway to Longevity and Life-Long Health* is available through Amazon and Edra Publishing. Dr. Shapira also serves as Editor of *Facets*, the San Diego County Dental Society’s journal, and enjoys gardening, art, and time with his family and two Great Pyrenees dogs.
