This course walks through each step of root canal therapy – with each building on the success of the previous phase. From diagnostic protocol through coronal restoration\, learn techniques for clinical success at every step needed to take the patient out of pain\, restore function to the tooth while maintaining the proper aesthetic\, and enhance long term success. \n\n\n\nCourse Objectives: \n\nUnderstand the factors of each unique case when diagnosing and treatment planning\nLearn how to create the proper access cavity\nIdentify the correct use of inter-appointment medicaments and the proper approach to temporizing teeth\nFamiliarize yourself with the different file technologies and options for imparting an appropriate shape to the canal\nRecognize the importance of removing infection- causing bacteria\nGain an understanding of the pros and cons of sealers and obturation techniques\nDiscern which restoration – direct or indirect – is the best approach to coronally restoring the endodontically-treated tooth\n\n***  PLEASE BRING 2-3 accessed teeth and loupes \nSpeaker:\nDr. Matthew Chesler \nWhile at USC School of Dentistry\, Dr. Matthew Chesler received a full scholarship from the US Navy. He first reported for active duty to Camp Pendleton where he completed a one year residency in Advanced Education in General Dentistry. Shortly afterwards\, he became one of the youngest residents to ever be selected for the Endodontics residency program at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School in Bethesda\, MD. He completed the program in 2008 and concurrently earned a postdoctoral Master of Science degree from The George Washington University\, Washington\, DC. \nAfter graduation\, he reported to Pearl Harbor\, Hawai’i as the Endodontics department head. Lieutenant Commander Chesler was transferred back to the San Diego area in early 2011 where he served as the head of the Endodontics department at Marine Corps Air Station\, Miramar. In 2015 he separated from the Navy after eleven years of active duty\, but is currently a naval reservist. \nDr. Chesler has remained academically active. In Hawai’i he was chairman of the annual Tri-Service Dental Symposium\, providing lectures to all Oahu-based dental officers.  He is successfully mentoring promising junior officers to follow his training path.
